STOP, LOOK, LISTEN – it’s how we learn to play safe and not get hurt. It’s also a great way to approach finding love. Next time you hit a roadblock in your dating life, try considering these tips for an alternative route to reach your destination.
STOP… being so hard on yourself
However bad you think it is, it’s probably not that bad. A positive outlook is a productive and more inviting one. If you’ve not met the right person to date, it’s because you’ve not met the right person at all.
STOP… comparing your life to others
The grass might look greener, but it probably isn’t. Even if your friends, family and co-workers have shacked up, who’s to say they’re happy? Don’t let other people’s happiness drain your joy. Instead, let it inspire you to find some of your own.
STOP… giving yourself deadlines
You’re not running out of time, so stop giving yourself meaningless deadlines for love. You won’t find love purely out of desperation. It’ll happen when it’s supposed to. Be open minded, say yes to new opportunities and trust Time to do the rest.
LOOK… somewhere different
If you’re looking for something you can’t find, have you tried looking elsewhere? If you’ve not been successful so far, try a different approach to finding love. The search should be exciting and awakening but if you’re bored of the scenery, mix it up.
LOOK… after yourself and at yourself harder
In dating, make sure you’re looking after number one – you. Be kind to yourself, don’t spread yourself too thinly and learn to be practical in your quest for love. Approach new relationships with honesty and authenticity, and you’ll meet your soulmate quicker.
LOOK… at what you already have
Instead of chasing what you’re missing, it’s good practice to take stock occasionally of what you already have. Gratitude for the assets in your life, big or small, will pay your love life forward.
LISTEN… to your instincts
Your gut feelings are there for a reason, to protect you and those around you. Don’t enter into relationships that don’t feel right, or force attraction if it doesn’t come naturally. And if something feels natural and easy, embrace the connection.
LISTEN… to your Exes
Your ex partners, wives or girlfriends do have a certain advantage which can be harnessed; they know you inside out. If they’re telling you something about yourself, it might pay to listen up. You may gain insight into yourself, or the people you date. Either way, you’ll learn something.
LISTEN… to those around you
If your best buddy from High School says you’re going for the wrong women, he may be onto something… Your friends, co-workers and family probably know you better than you think. Let them guide you in dating; they have your best interest at heart.
